I’ve been playing drums for over 16 years, and I have experience in practically every style of music, but my primary focus is in rock, metal, jazz, fusion, and progressive genres. I have extensive live, touring, studio, and session work experience. I studied with successful drummers all over Texas, including Pat Mastelotto, Grammy nominee Matt Thompson, Ed Jarusinsky, Micheal Koennig, and Greg Seale.
My approach to teaching is to strike a balance between fundamental technique and fun. It’s very important, I feel, to have a firm grounding in techniques such as the 40 International Rudiments, reading music, and basic rhythms that drummers need to master in order to be prepared to play any style of music. However, to focus on technique to the degree that playing the instrument is no longer fun and inspirational is counter-intuitive at best. After all, the whole
reason we play musical instruments in the first place is because it’s fun. The object of my drum lessons is to foster the student’s development of their own unique voice on the instrument while ensuring that they have all the rudimentary techniques necessary to properly perform their ideas.
